Five New Vande Bharat Trains Given to the Nation in 2024
Vande Bharat Express trains completed 4 years in 2024. Out of 10 trains running in India, two trains started operations in 2019. No new trains were launched in 2024 but the Prime Minister dedicated 5 new Vande Bharat Express trains to passengers. Early 2024 saw the arrival of three new trains within two months. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced plans to run Vande Bharat trains between Lucknow and Sitapur, and Lucknow and Kanpur. These are major cultural and commercial centers with heavy daily traffic.
Vande Bharat Express Routes and Launch Dates
- New Delhi to Varanasi: The first Vande Bharat Train started on 15 February 2019. It stops at Prayagraj and Kanpur and runs 5 days a week (except Monday and Thursday).
- New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra: Started on 3 October 2019 by Home Minister Amit Shah. It stops at Jammu Tawi, Ambala, and Ludhiana Cantt, running 6 days a week (except Tuesday).
- Gandhinagar Capital to Mumbai Central: Started 30 September 2024, stops at Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad. It completes the journey in less than 6 hours, running 5 days a week.
- New Delhi to Ambala Cantt Junction, Chandigarh, Anandpur Sahib, Una, Amba Indora: Launched on 13 October 2024, runs 6 days a week.
- Chennai Central to Mysuru: Started on 10 November 2024, covering 479 km, running 5 days a week.
- Nagpur to Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh): Started on 11 September 2024, stops at Gondia, Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, running 6 days a week.
- Howrah to New Jalpaiguri: Started on 30 December 2024 in West Bengal, completes journey in 7 hrs 30 mins running 6 days a week (no service on Wednesday).
