The Meghalaya Rural Backyard Piggery Scheme 2025 is started to help farmers earn more through pig farming. This government scheme supports pig breeding and livestock keeping to improve farmers’ incomes in Meghalaya. If you’re a farmer, this scheme offers new ways to boost your livelihood through piggery.

Overview of the Rural Backyard Piggery Scheme 2025
Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, announced this scheme to support farmers with livestock-related work, especially pig breeding. The program is part of the state’s “Progress” scheme to make sure farmers have steady income by improving pig farming methods. Meghalaya currently buys about 18,000 MT of pork from other states. This scheme aims to lower that gap by encouraging more pig farming locally.
The government has set aside Rs 15.18 crore for phase 1, which will give 6,000 farmers four improved piglets each. A second phase, costing Rs 25 crore, is planned to expand this support. Farmers will get zero-interest loans for pig breeding and fattening under this scheme. Early feedback from farmers shows good interest in the program.
