Update as of December 27, 2024 – Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated Khel Mahakumbh 2.0 with a remarkable 66 lakh registrations spanning across 39 sports. During the inaugural ceremony at TransStadia, the CM emphasized that this platform allows athletes to realize their potential. Changes have been made to registration rules enabling participants to enroll in two sports instead of one. The government has also announced cash prizes totaling Rs 45 crores for winners across seven divisions.
The Khel Mahakumbh has been instrumental in nurturing talented athletes like Sunita Gaikwad, Ankita Raina, Harmeet Desai, and Maana Patel, with Gujarat positioning itself to host the Olympic Games in 2036, bolstered by the establishment of 24 sports facilities at the district level and plans for centres in talukas.
