Following the Lok Sabha’s passage of the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill in December 2024, the linking of Aadhaar with voter IDs was permitted. The government announced that the earlier deadline of April 1, 2024, had been changed to March 31, 2024, as the last day to link voter ID with an Aadhaar card. By March 31, 2024, individuals will be able to link their Aadhaar to the voter ID online through NVSP Portal or via SMS. Although not required, the linking process aids in identifying or registration of the name of the same individual in more than one constituency or more than once in the same constituency.
The Ministry of Law and Justice (Legislative Department), number S.O.2893 (E), dated 17th June 2024, was amended by the Central Government as follows: In the said notification, for the words and figures, the 1st April 2024″ shall be substituted for the words and figures, the 31st March 2024, the Ministry of Law and Justice stated in a notification. How to Link Aadhaar with Voter ID Online through NVSP
- First, visit the NVSP Official website.
- On the home page of the NVSP portal, there is a button for the voter portal click on it.
- You will be directed to a new page of the voter portal
- You have to first log in with either your mobile number Email ID or voter ID number and you have to give your password.
- After successfully logging in you just need to provide basic information like your name, district, etc., and then click the search button.
- Then you have to click on “feed Aadhaar number ” and a popup page will appear.
- Then you have to fill in the Aadhar Card details
- Then you have to click on the submit button and a message will appear that the application has been submitted successfully.
How to Link Aadhaar with Voter ID Online through SMS
You may also connect your Aadhaar card to your EPIC card:
- First, you must a mobile phone with a SIM card.
- And for the SMS service, you must send a text message to 166 or 51969.
- The message is formatted as ECILINKSPACE>EPIC No.> SPACE>Aadhaar No.
- However, you must send this message from the cellphone number associated with your Aadhar card.
- Then you will get a confirmation that they have been connected.
How to Link Aadhaar with Voter ID Online Through Phone
The government of India (GOI) has established many call centers in different states in the country. The Aadhaar may also be connected to the EPIC card by phoning the call centers established specifically for this purpose.
