Each year, this scheme is set to benefit approximately 100,000 working women by providing a subsidy of up to 50% of the vehicle’s cost, capped at ₹25,000. This initiative aims to give women the freedom to travel safely without relying on public transport, especially during late hours.

Vehicle Specifications

For vehicles purchased under this scheme, the following requirements must be met:

  • Maximum engine capacity of 125cc
  • Must be eligible for registration according to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988
  • Vehicle should comply with current emission norms and be manufactured after January 1, 2018
  • All vehicle details will be collected by the Project Director (PD), Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihoods Mission (TNSRLM) in the respective district and shared with the Transport Department

Eligibility Criteria for the Amma Two Wheeler Scheme

To qualify for the Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Women must be involved in livelihood activities or wage employment independently or in groups.
  • Applicants must commute long distances.
  • The women’s earnings should be the main income source for their families.
  • Eligible categories include:
    • Registered workers in organized or unorganized sectors
    • Women employed in shops and establishments
    • Self-employed women engaged in small trades
    • Women working in government-aided organizations, private institutions, and community-based organizations
    • Banking correspondents, facilitators, and ASHA workers
  • Must be a native of Tamil Nadu and aged 18 to 40 years.
  • Must have a valid Two Wheeler or Learner License registration upon applying.
  • Family annual income should not exceed ₹2,50,000.
  • Only one woman from each family may benefit.
  • Applicants must have completed at least the 8th-grade examination.
  • Priority will be given to:
    • Women in remote areas
    • Women-headed households
    • Deserted women and destitute widows
    • Differently-abled women
    • Unmarried women over 35
