Why Was Aam Aadmi Rahat Vitaran Yojana Started?
The main reason for starting this scheme is to support families hit by natural disasters financially. For example, in July 2024, floods affected over 4,793 people in Kullu district alone, destroying 522 houses completely and damaging more than 2,000 others either partly or fully. The government has given the first installment of funds to these families to help them recover and move forward.
Financial Aid Distribution Across Districts
The Chief Minister has said that the relief fund will be given to 16,000 more disaster-affected families across various districts of Himachal Pradesh. This includes Kangra, Hamirpur, Mandi, Shimla, Bilaspur, Kinnaur, and Sirmaur among others. More than 35,000 houses were destroyed in the state, with around 13,000 houses partially damaged.
Those whose homes were completely destroyed will get Rs 3 lakh as the first installment, transferred directly to their accounts. The scheme is committed to fair and timely distribution of this aid.
Monthly Financial Support for Disaster Relief Camp Residents
Families living in disaster relief camps will receive monthly financial help under the scheme. Rural residents will get Rs 5,000 per month to manage rent, while urban residents in the camps will receive Rs 10,000 monthly. This support will be provided by the Himachal Pradesh government until 31 March 2024, after which updates about future support will be announced.
