Telangana’s One Time Scheme has been officially introduced by the Director of Municipal Administration and the Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). This initiative, known as the One Time Scheme (OTS), offers significant relief to taxpayers. If taxpayers pay the original property tax amount along with a mere 10% interest on any outstanding arrears for the fiscal year 2024-2025, they will benefit from a 90% waiver on all accumulated arrears.
Understanding the Telangana One Time Scheme
In line with GO Rt No. 485 issued by the Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) Department, the state government has introduced a major incentive by authorizing the waiver of 90% of accumulated interest on property tax arrears. This decision comes after thorough discussions between the GHMC Commissioner and the Director of Municipal Administration. Taxpayers must ensure they pay the complete tax amount—including the principal and 10% interest—by the end of the fiscal year 2024-2025 to take advantage of this offer.
The One Time Scheme will be implemented in a campaign mode, and is currently scheduled to conclude on October 31, 2025. This scheme is applicable across all urban local bodies in Telangana, including the GHMC. Taxpayers who settle their entire property tax debt—including both interest and penalties—by March 2025 will receive a substantial deduction of 90% on future payments.
As per reports from the GHMC Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration, the total property tax arrears in all urban local bodies, including the GHMC, stand at Rs 1,999.24 crores, with an outstanding interest balance of Rs. 1,626.83 crores. The government has directed officials to create a robust monitoring system to ensure that the scheme is executed effectively and transparently.

Advantages of the One Time Scheme
The GHMC Commissioner and the Director of Municipal Administration have been tasked by the MA&UD Department to actively promote the One Time Scheme, ensuring that a maximum number of citizens can benefit from it. They are encouraged to reach out to property owners with outstanding arrears through text messages, phone calls, and extensive advertisements in various media.
This OTS is designed to aid taxpayers significantly in managing their dues. It is imperative that the scheme be executed effectively and with robust public awareness campaigns before the deadline of October 31, 2025. Municipal officials have been instructed to set up a thorough system for daily monitoring of the scheme’s implementation.
Current Property Tax Arrears in Telangana
The GHMC Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration are reportedly concerned about the property tax arrears totaling Rs 1,999.24 crores across all urban local bodies in Telangana, including GHMC. In response, the State government has introduced the One Time Scheme (OTS) to help settle these debts and has offered a waiver of 90% on the interest accumulated, thereby providing crucial support to taxpayers facing financial challenges regarding property tax arrears. This waiver is valid throughout the fiscal year 2024-2025.
