Telangana is known for its skilled handloom weavers. The Telangana Chenetha Maggam Scheme 2025 is a special program started by the Telangana government to support these weavers. This scheme aims to improve the lives and work of handloom weavers in Telangana by updating their old tools and giving financial help.
Overview of Telangana Chenetha Maggam Scheme 2025
This scheme was launched by the Telangana state government to support handloom weavers by replacing old pit looms with new, modern frame looms. On National Handloom Day, August 7, 2024, Handloom Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao announced this plan to provide new machines to all handloom weavers in the state. Besides new machines, the government also gives identity cards to the weavers.
The main aim is to boost the productivity and quality of handloom products. Also, the government has raised the retirement age for handloom weavers from 59 to 75 years. Each new frame loom costs Rs 38,000, and if a weaver passes away, their family will get Rs 5 lakh within 10 days to support them.
