About Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana 2024

The central government has launched Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana in order to provide pensions to freedom fighters and their families. Through this scheme, the government provides a pension of Rs 200 per month to the freedom fighters and to their families Rs 100 to 200 in accordance with the size and number of eligible dependents in the family. Until the year 1980, this pension was provided only to those freedom fighters who were in need of financial assistance. After 1980 the benefit of this scheme was extended to all freedom fighters.

After the year 1980, the government also raised the amount of pension from Rs 200 to 300 for the case of living freedom fighters and from Rs 100 to 200 for the widows of the late freedom fighter with an additional Rs 50 per month each for unmarried daughters up to a maximum limit of Rs 300 per month

Continuation Of Pension Till 2025-26

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has approved continuing Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana for the financial year 2021-22 to 2025-26. This proposal has been received from the Ministry of home affairs under the Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This decision was taken during Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in order to show the commitment of the government to remember the sacrifice of freedom fighters. The government has allocated a budget of Rs 3274.87 crore for the implementation of this scheme. Presently there are 23566 beneficiaries across the country who are covered under the scheme. The government has raised the amount of pension from time to time and dearness relief on the pension amount is also given since 15 August 2016

Objective Of Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana

The main objective of the Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana is to honor the contribution of freedom fighters. Through this scheme, a monthly pension is provided to pensioners so that they can lead their life with respect. This scheme is basically a token of respect for the contribution of freedom fighters in the national freedom struggle. On the demise of freedom fighters, a pension is provided to the eligible dependents as per the eligibility norms and procedures. 23566 beneficiaries across the country are covered under this scheme. Eligible Dependents Under Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana

  • Mother
  • Father
  • Widower/widow (if he or she has not remarried)
  • Daughters

Note: Only one eligible dependent will be granted a pension. If there is more than one dependent and the sequence of eligibility will be Widower/widow, unmarried daughter, mother, and father.

Duration Of Pension

  • The duration of the pension is for lifetime
  • An unmarried daughter will get a pension till she gets married
  • If the pensioner dies then his or her heir will not be eligible for pensioner automatically. They have to apply afresh with proof of pensioner and their applications will be considered in terms of the pension scheme

Rules Of Permit Drawl Of Pension

  • It can be drawn in the form of treasury or sub-treasury
  • By money order at the cost of government If the amount of monthly pension does not exceed Rs 250. On payment of money order commission If the amount of pension exceeds Rs 250

Eligibility Criteria Of Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana

  • If a person has suffered minimum imprisonment of 6 months in the mainland jail before independence
  • Ex-INA personnel will be eligible for pension if they have suffered imprisonment or detention outside India
  • The minimum period of actual imprisonment is 3 months for women and SC/ST freedom fighters
  • Any person who has remained underground for more than 6 months due to an arrest warrant or detention order being issued
  • A person interned in his home or externed from his district for a period of 6 months or more
  • Any person whose property was confiscated or attached and sold due to participation in the freedom struggle
  • Any person who has become permanently incapacitated during firing or lathi charge
  • A person who has lost his job and means of livelihood for participation in the national movement
  • Family of martyr

Required Documents To Apply Under Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana

Imprisonment/detention

  • For imprisonment/detention Certificate from concerned Jail authorities, district magistrate or the state government
  • In case of non-availability of detention certificate co prisoner certificate from sitting MP or MLA or Ex-MP or Ex MLA specifying the jail period can be submitted

Remained underground

  • For remaining underground documentary evidence by way of court or government orders proclaiming the applicant as an offender or announcing an award on his head or for his arrest or ordering his detention
  • Certificate from veteran freedom fighters who have themselves undergone imprisonment for 5 years or more if the official records are not forthcoming due to their nonavailability

Internment or Externment

  • Order of internment or internment or any other corroboratory documentary evidence
  • Certificate from prominent freedom fighters who have themselves undergone imprisonment for 5 years or more if the official records are not available

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Loss of property or job

  • Orders of confiscation and sale of property, orders of dismissal or removal from service

Procedure To Apply Under Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana

  • First of all, you have to go to the office of the freedom fighter division, Ministry of Home affairs
  • You have to ask for the application form from there
  • You have to fill out the application form in the prescribed format
  • Now you have to attach this form with all the required documents
  • After that, you have to send the form to the chief secretary of state government or union territory administration concerned
