Following the great success of the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Olympic Khel, where over 30 lakh players took part, the government decided to launch the city version of these Olympic games. About Rajiv Gandhi Shahri Olympic Khel 2025

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, announced the start of Rajiv Gandhi Shahri Olympic Khel from 26 January 2025. This event is open to all urban residents of Rajasthan, from children to seniors up to 100 years old. The competition aims to find and develop sportspersons at ward, district, and state levels. Interested players must register online on the official website.

Registration for this event started on 21 December 2024 and will continue until 21 January 2025. You can apply on the website rajolympic.rajasthan.gov.in. The games give a platform for talents to show their potential and receive proper training to compete at higher levels such as Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and even the Olympics.

Main Highlights of Rajiv Gandhi Shahri Olympic Khel

  • Sports include Football, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Basketball, Tennis Ball Cricket, Kho-Kho (for girls), and Athletics (100m, 200m, 400m).
  • Players of all ages, from school children to 100 years old, living in urban Rajasthan can join.
  • The competition will be held in 240 urban local bodies including 10 Municipal Corporations, 36 Municipal Councils, and 194 Municipal Boards.
  • There are 628 clusters created to organize these games at ward, district, and state levels.
  • Participants will get T-shirts, medals, and prizes. Winners might also get priority in government contract jobs.
  • Professional coaching will be provided to trained athletes for better performance in national and international events.

On 5 August 2024, an important event took place in Rajasthan with the start of Rajiv Gandhi Gramin (Rural) and Shahri (Urban) Olympic Khel across 11,252 gram panchayats and 538 urban bodies. Over 58.5 lakh participants aged between 10 and 82 years signed up to compete in sports like Kabaddi, Shooting Ball, Kho-Kho, Tennis Ball Cricket, Volleyball, Football, and Tug of War. This makes it the largest sports event in the country by number of participants.

Each participant received a T-shirt, and winners got medals, prizes, and priority in government jobs via contract-based hirings. Top players will get advanced coaching for future international competitions.
