Kerala MEDISEP Scheme is a government health insurance program specially made for government workers and retired people in Kerala. It is one of the biggest health insurance schemes in the state, helping almost 30 lakh people. This scheme gives yearly health coverage of ₹3 lakh for many types of hospital treatments.

If you or your family members work with the Kerala state government or receive a pension, then this scheme is very important for you. It helps you save a lot of money on hospital bills and treatment. Everything like hospital stay, surgery, medicines, and even organ transplants are covered under the scheme.

What is Kerala MEDISEP Scheme 2025 ?

The full form of MEDISEP is “Medical Insurance for State Employees and Pensioners.” It is managed by the Kerala Finance Department and insurance is given by Oriental Insurance. You can use this scheme in both government and private hospitals included in the list.

This scheme is now fully active and already over 23,000 people have taken its benefit. More than ₹66 crore has been used to pay hospital bills through this program. Private and government hospitals have already received payments from the scheme for approved treatments.

Under MEDISEP, 1920 different diseases and surgeries are covered. You only need to be admitted for at least 24 hours in a hospital that is part of the scheme to start using its benefits.

Every year, you get ₹3 lakh insurance coverage. This includes ₹1.5 lakh fixed and ₹1.5 lakh floater (extra that can be carried forward for 3 years, making it up to ₹6 lakh). Pre-hospitalization and post-hospitalization (15 days before and after) are also covered.

Eligibility

  • Government Workers and Teachers : All people who work for the State Government, like office staff, teachers, and college workers, can join this health scheme if they pay the required fee. Also, staff of universities that get money from the State Government and workers of local government offices can join. Special staff who work directly with top leaders like the Chief Minister, Ministers, and Speaker can also join.
  • New Employees : People who get a new government job during the 3-year scheme time can also join. They have to start paying the fee from the month they join the job. They can get up to ₹2 lakh each year for medical treatment.
  • Part-Time Workers and Pensioners : Part-time workers and teachers (even those who have retired) can also join if they pay the fee. If they get a pension, the fee can be taken from their monthly pension.
  • All Retired Workers (Pensioners) : All retired workers who get a pension from the government, including retired teachers and college staff, are included. The fee will be taken from their medical allowance. Retired university staff and workers from local government offices are also included. Retired special staff who worked with leaders can also join.

Kerala MEDISEP Scheme Benefits

Only Kerala state government employees and pensioners are eligible. This also includes staff from aided schools and colleges, universities receiving state grants, and the High Court staff.

Family members like children and spouses are also covered. If both parents are eligible, then children are automatically included. However, people from independent bodies like KSEB, KSRTC, KWA, and commissions are not eligible.

What if you don’t want to participate? If you made no claims, you can exit. If you have used the scheme, you must continue paying ₹500/month till the package period ends.

What if you are suspended? The premium amount will be deducted from your suspension allowance.

Hospital Coverage: The scheme includes 396 hospitals (143 government). More hospitals like KIMSHEALTH Trivandrum have also joined recently. Government will take action if hospitals don’t follow scheme rules.

Benefits: All medical expenses like surgery, hospital rooms (₹1000 for general, ₹1500 for semi-private), doctor fees, medicines, and implant costs are covered. Transplant surgeries like kidney, liver, and heart are also part of the scheme (up to ₹20 lakh).

How to Register for Kerala MEDISEP Scheme

STEP 1: Go to the official website: medisep.kerala.gov.in

STEP 2: Click on “Register” and fill out your details like name, ID, department, etc.

STEP 3: Upload your documents like Aadhaar card, ID proof, and submit.

STEP 4: Once done, your registration will be complete.

How to Download MED Card Online

STEP 1: Visit the official website: medisep.kerala.gov.in

STEP 2: Click on “Download MEDCard” option.

STEP 3: Login using Employee ID, PEN or PPO Number and MEDISEP ID.

STEP 4: Your MED Card will appear. Click download.

How to Check Status & Hospital List

Check Status: Visit the MEDISEP portal and click “Status.” Enter your Employee ID or PEN/PPO and Date of Birth to see your details.
