About Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) Scheme

- Increased aid for house construction: Plain areas now get Rs.1.2 lakh and hilly or difficult areas get Rs.1.3 lakh.
- Extra Rs.12,000 help for toilets through Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin coordination.
- A National Technical Support Agency helps with technical aid for building houses.
- Money is sent directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts linked with Aadhaar via electronic transfer.
- Central and state governments share the financial help cost. In plain areas, the center gives 60% and states 40%. In hilly regions, 90% comes from the center and 10% from states. For union territories, the full amount is given by the central government.
