‘Housing for All’ is the goal of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U) program, which is implemented in urban areas. To implement the PMAY Urban scheme in India’s State/Union Territories, assistance from the central government and local governments will be provided. 1.) The Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low Income Group (LIG) will receive a 6.5% interest subsidy from the government. 2.) 4% for Middle Income Group (MIG-I) and 3. 3% for Middle Income Group (MIG-II) on home loans obtained by qualified beneficiaries for a term of 20 years under Credit Linked Serviced Scheme (CLSS).
When allocating ground floors in the homes built under the PMAY Urban Scheme, consideration shall be given to older or differently-abled people and eco-friendly building techniques. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban programme, which aims to provide “Housing for All” in urban areas, has approved the construction of 1.05 crore houses to give the city’s underprivileged access to affordable housing.

PMAY Urban Objective

Eligibility Criteria for PMAY Urban
The applicants applying for PMAY Urban must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
- In any part of the country, you must not have a house
- You have never before received housing assistance under any other program
- The grant will be provided as one if you are applying as a married couple or joint owner
Eligibility for EWS, LIG, MIG I, & MIG II under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS): People in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) are those whose household income is Rs. 3 lakh or less. To apply for benefits under the EWS category, you must, however, present the necessary documentation. The most carpet that may be used is 30 square meters.
- Low Income Group (LIG): This category includes those whose monthly family income is between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 6 lakh. To be eligible for the benefits, you must present an income certificate or other proof of income. The maximum carpet area permitted in this category under the PMAY Urban Scheme is 60 square meters.
- Mid Income Group (MIG) I: This group includes people who make less than Rs 12 lakh a year. You are eligible to apply for a loan of up to Rs. 9 lakh to build or buy a 160-square-meter home.
- Mid Income Group (MIG) II: If your yearly household income falls within the Mid Income Group (MIG) II range of Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh, you may apply for a home under the PMAY Urban Scheme. A property with a maximum square footage of 200 square meters is eligible for a housing loan of up to Rs 12 lakh.
PMAY Urban Guidelines
The requirements for PMAY Urban are as follows:
- The beneficiary family consists of the husband and wife as well as any sons or daughters who are not married.
- Beneficiaries shouldn’t have used any other government housing program’s aid.
- No family member shall be the owner of a pucca house in their name in any region of India.
- If an adult household member does not possess a pucca house anywhere in India, they will be treated as a separate household (regardless of their marital status).
- Married couples are permitted to possess a single home either jointly or solely.
- Family members’ Aadhaar numbers must be submitted while applying for a loan.
Steps to Apply for PMAY Urban Scheme Online
To apply for PMAY Urban Scheme online, the user needs to follow the below-given steps:
- First of all, go to the official website of PMAY Urban at https://pmaymis.gov.in/
- The homepage of the website will open on the screen
- Login to the official website
- Now, under Citizen Assessment, select the Slum Dwellers or Benefits Under 3 Components
- After that, enter your Aadhaar Number and the Name
- The system will then verify your Aadhaar details
- Now, fill in form with all the required details
- After that, enter the captcha code
- Finally, click on the submit button to complete the application process
Steps to Check the PMAY Application Status
To check the PMAY Application Status, the user needs to follow the below given steps:
- First of all log in to the official website of PMAY Urban at https://pmaymis.gov.in/
- Under the Citizen Assessment, click on Track your Assessment Status
- A new page will open on the screen with two options to check the status i.e.,
- By Assessment/Application ID
- By entering your Name, Father’s Name, and your registered Mobile Number.
- Select one of the options and enter the respective details
- Finally, click on the Search button and the status will open on the screen
