Why RBI Udgam Portal Was Created

If a bank account or deposit is not used or claimed for 10 years, it becomes an “unclaimed deposit.” These funds are transferred to RBI’s Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund, but you still have the right to claim this money anytime. Many people don’t know they have unclaimed deposits, so RBI created this portal to make it easier to find and claim your unclaimed amounts.

Why Do Unclaimed Deposits Grow?

Some people forget to close old accounts or claim matured fixed deposits. Also, sometimes nominees or family members do not collect money from deceased account holders. This causes unclaimed deposits to increase, making the portal important for tracking these funds.
