Documents Required for PAN Card

You can submit an application for a new PAN, a correction to an existing PAN, or the reissue of a PAN Card in the event that it is lost or damaged. Depending on the applicant’s residency status, Form 49A or Form 49AA must be completed and submitted with a variety of valid documents. Depending on the entity type, different sorts of applicants will need different documentation for PAN cards (individual or organization).

Documents Accepted as Proof of Identity

Copy of:

  • Voter’s ID card
  • Ration card having Applicant’s photo
  • Driving License
  • Pensioner card copy with applicant’s photograph
  • Passport
  • A certificate issued by a bank that should be duly attested, containing the applicant’s photo and the bank a/c number

  • A certificate of identity in a prescribed format signed by a Member of the Legislative Assembly, Member of Parliament, Municipal Councillor, or a Gazetted Officer
  • Bank statement on letterhead from the bank branch along with name and stamp of the issuing officer and containing duly attested photograph and bank account number of the applicant

Additional Notes:

  • In the case of a minor application, the parent’s or guardian’s identification will be taken as the applicant’s proof of identity and address.
  • For HUFs, an affidavit signed by the karta of the HUF listing the names, father’s names, and addresses of all co-applicants on the application date will suffice as identification.

  • Birth Certificate issued by Indian Consulate
  • Certificate of Marriage issued from Marriage Registrar’s Office
  • Matriculation certificate from a recognized board
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Domicile certificate issued by Government of India or any of the state governments

  • Pension payment order
  • Affidavit stating the DOB which is signed before a magistrate
  • Photo identity card issued by the Central Government or State Government or Central Public Sector Undertaking or State Public Sector Undertaking.

Documents Needed for Individuals and HUFs to Apply for PAN Cards (Not Being a Citizen of India)

The paperwork required to apply for a PAN Card is slightly different for individuals and HUFs who are not Indian nationals. Just proof of identity and address is required for these applicants; no proof of date of birth is required. The list of approved documents is as follows:

  • Passport
  • PIO card allotted by the Government of India
  • OCI card that is allotted by Government of India
  • Other Citizenship ID Number, National ID Number, Taxpayer ID Number (any of these) –have to be properly attested either by the ‘Apostille’ or by any of the Indian Embassy/ High Commission/ Consulate functioning in the applicant’s home country

Documents Accepted as Proof of Address

Copy of

  • Passport
  • PIO card allotted by the Government of India
  • Non-resident external bank account statements in India
  • Bank account statements from the country where the applicant resides
  • OCI card that is allotted by the Government of India
  • Registration certificate issued by Office of Foreigner’s Registration and reflects Indian address

Other Citizenship ID Number or National ID Number, Taxpayer ID Number – (any of these) – must be properly attested either by the “Apostille” or by any Indian Embassy/ High Commission/ Consulate operating in the applicant’s home country. Additionally, the appointment letter copy provided by the Indian company or Employer-issued original certificate of Address in India must also be properly attested.
