Earlier called the Maulana Azad National Scholarship, this scheme started on 3rd May 2003 by Late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Its goal is to give financial help to talented girls from minority communities so they can finish their secondary education when they can’t afford the costs.

Purpose of the Scholarship

This scholarship aims to motivate girls from minority communities to continue studying from class 9 to 12 by giving financial help. It covers expenses like school or college fees, buying books and stationery, and boarding or lodging costs. This support helps those who might stop studying due to money problems.

Eligibility Criteria for Begum Hazrat Mahal Scholarship

  • Girls must belong to minority communities such as Muslims, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs, or Parsis.
  • Only students studying in classes 9 to 12 can apply.
  • Students should have scored at least 50% marks or an equivalent grade in the last qualifying exam.
  • School verification is required. Students need to fill a school verification form and get it signed by their principal, including the principal’s stamp and signature on the photograph.
  • The yearly family income should not be more than Rs. 2 lakh.
  • No hard copies of applications should be sent to authorities.
  • Only up to two students from one family can apply.
  • The scholarship is not for studying abroad.
  • There is no fee to apply.

Terms and Conditions to Remember

  • Scholarship funds are given based on the minority population in each state or union territory as per the 2011 census.

  • Once the scholarship stops for any reason, it cannot be restarted.
  • If a student gives false information, the scholarship will be cancelled and the money recovered.
  • The scholarship will stop if there is any gap in studies.
