Gujarat has begun handing out Ayushman cards under the PMJAY-MA Yojana. Back in 2012, when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he started the Mukhyamantri Amrutam Yojana to help poor citizens get medical treatment without worrying about high illness costs. In 2014, the scheme was expanded to cover families earning up to ₹4 lakh a year through the ‘MA’ plan.
In 2019, the two Gujarat health schemes — Amrutam and Amrutam Vatsaly — were combined into the Ayushman Bharat Card scheme by Prime Minister Modi. Since then, Gujarat has given PMJAY-MA Cards to around 1.58 crore beneficiaries.
According to an official update, more than 50 lakh cards have been given out since September 2024 under the Chief Minister’s leadership. Now, these beneficiaries will receive new printed Ayushman PVC cards. Let’s take a closer look at the PMJAY-MA scheme, its benefits, and who can get the assistance.

PMJAY-MA Yojana 2025
On 17 October 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the distribution of Ayushman Cards for PMJAY-MA beneficiaries in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, via video conference. During the event, he also interacted online with the beneficiaries. Over 50 lakh Ayushman PVC cards (made of polyvinyl chloride for easy carrying) have been printed and handed over to district health and medical officers for distribution at the village level.
With this PMJAY-MA Ayushman card, each family can get health coverage up to ₹5 lakh without any limit on family size or age. It covers primary, secondary, and tertiary hospital care with financial help during hospital stays.
