The MSME Competitive LEAN Scheme 2025 helps small and medium businesses improve their manufacturing and cut costs. This updated scheme offers more support and benefits to MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) in India.
Overview of the MSME Competitive LEAN Scheme
The MSME Competitive LEAN Scheme is a government scheme aimed at making MSMEs more competitive by using lean manufacturing techniques. These methods help get rid of waste, improve quality, and speed up processes. This helps MSMEs lower production costs and succeed in both Indian and international markets.
Before, many MSMEs avoided lean methods because they didn’t know the benefits or found expert help too costly. Now, the government has made the scheme easier and cheaper with increased financial support and fewer requirements.
Main Features and Benefits of the MSME Competitive LEAN Scheme 2025
- The government will cover 90% of the costs for expert guidance and consulting to implement lean manufacturing.
- The need for Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) in each cluster has been removed to simplify the process.
- Training and advice are provided through lean manufacturing experts to improve production flow, inventory management, and worker efficiency.
- MSMEs using this scheme can cut waste, improve product quality, increase safety, grow their market presence, and become more profitable.
- Extra government funding is available for MSMEs in SFURTI clusters, women-owned businesses, SC/ST entrepreneurs, and those in the North East Region (NER).
- Companies joining through Industry Associations or Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) groups may also get an extra 5% funding after completing all levels.
Main Objectives of the MSME Competitive LEAN Scheme 2025
The main goal is to make MSMEs more competitive by using lean manufacturing methods like 5S, Kaizen, Kanban, Visual Workplace, and Poka Yoke. These help find and remove waste in all areas of production, making the whole process smooth and efficient. It also focuses on encouraging workers to help with improvements.
How the MSME Competitive LEAN Scheme Works
Lean Manufacturing Consultants visit MSME units in clusters to study their current operations. They then create step-by-step plans to apply lean techniques. The National Productivity Council (NPC) manages the pilot phase with about 100 micro clusters.
The scheme runs in three levels: local clusters of about ten MSMEs, an intermediate National Monitoring and Implementing Unit (NMIU), and a Steering Committee at the top under the Development Commissioner (MSME) office.
MSMEs first get government support, then continue improvements on their own after seeing cost savings and better productivity.
Financial Help and How to Apply
The government pays up to 90% of coaching and consulting fees under this scheme. MSMEs need to arrange the remaining amount. Those interested should apply through the National Productivity Council in New Delhi.
Applications should come from industry groups or associations representing at least 10 MSME units registered under the MSME Development Act, 2006.
