Similar to other states, the state civil supplies department oversees all operations relating to ration cards, food security, and the public distribution system in Mizoram. This department is referred to as the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs department. The most typical goods distributed under PDS in the state are rice, wheat, kerosene oil, and others. Mizoram Ration Card Benefits
The main benefit of the ration card is to offer food items like wheat, kerosene, and LPG at heavily discounted rates. Because this card is offered based on the APL, AAY, and BPL, persons from all socioeconomic classes will benefit. Food commodity costs on the national and international markets are skyrocketing, but this card allows consumers to buy necessary food commodities for a reasonable price.
Mizoram Ration Card Types
In Mizoram, ration cards fall into one of the following four categories:
- Ration Cards under the National Food Security Act: Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), ration cards are sent to homes in the state of Mizoram that are covered by the Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Priority Household programs
- Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY): The AAY ration cards are distributed to government-identified economically disadvantaged families. At 3/kg, they purchase 35 kg of rice. In the past, just 5% of the population was a part of the AAY program. This only applied to those who were unable to manage two meals every day. AAY cards are now being given out to BPL familiesheaded by widows, physically or mentally impaired or terminally ill people, or residents over 60 who have no other source of income, expanding their purview. The list of individuals to be included in AAY is created by the concerned local authorities.
- Non-NFSA Ration Cards: The Mizoram Civil Supplies department attempts to give necessities to everyone in need. Non-NFSA Ration Cards The government issues Non-NFSA ration cards to everyone who is not covered by the NFSA program to ensure food security for all residents of the state. Individuals in this category receive 8 kg of rice for 15 rupees per kilogram.
- Priority Household (PHH): These cards are given to members of society’s most vulnerable groups, both as individuals and as households. This includes unorganized sector employees such as daily wage workers, landless laborers, marginal farmers, etc. The central government authorizes the state government to distribute 3 kg of rice for 15 rupees per kg, whereas the cardholders in this category receive 8 kg of rice per month for 3 rupees. Under the standards established by the federal government, state officials choose the homes to be taken into account for this program. The final Mizoram ration card list is created by the village councils and local government.
