Kerala Social Security Mission – In order to provide social security to the destitute, poor, aged, children, women, chronically ill cancer patients, and other sections of the society the Government of Kerala implements various kinds of schemes. About Kerala Social Security Mission 2024

The Government of Kerala has launched the Kerala Social Security Mission which is organized under the Social justice Department of Kerala. Through this mission services and support are extended to destitute, poor, aged, children, women, chronically ill cancer patients, and other sections of the population. Through this mission, social security projects for weaker sections of society are undertaken and implemented. Other than that, centralized food processing and food supplementation is also ensured to the poor patients who are undergoing treatment in government hospitals. This mission will also rehabilitate patients who are discharged from the hospital and have nowhere to go.

In order to make society balanced this scheme also addresses the health status of the poor. Through this scheme, various types of programs has also been implemented for improving health status by providing nutritional standard food to the needy. This mission is working to identify weaker sections of society in order to improve their status.

Objective Of Kerala Social Security Mission

The main objective of the Kerala Social Security Mission is to provide social security to various sections of society. Under this scheme, various types of social security programs will be organized all over the state in order to extend service and support to the beneficiaries. Types Schemes Under Kerala Social Security Mission

Cancer Suraksha for children-

This scheme has launched in order to provide cancer treatment to children. Under this scheme, the entire cost of treatment which includes the cost of investigation will be borne by the Hospital through the funds provided under the mission. Initially, the ceiling of per-child expenditure would be Rs 50000 but the hospital can Incur additional charges if required. Beneficiaries can directly take the benefit of this scheme from the hospitals

Snehapoorvam for children-

There are around 75000 children below 18 years of age who are living in orphanages. For all those children the Government of Kerala has launched snehapoorvam. Under this scheme financial assistance is provided to the orphans. The government provides financial assistance from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 per month in order to raise the standard of living of the children. The applicant is required to submit the application along with all the necessary documents to the head of government or aided institutions before 31st October every year. Those children whose age is below 5 years can directly apply to the executive director, Kerala social security mission through the respective child welfare committee

Thalolam for children-

In order to provide free of cost treatment to children who are affected by chronic diseases like hemophilia, cerebral palsy, etc the Government of Kerala has launched this scheme. All the children whose age is below 18 years will be provided free treatment under this scheme. The initial assistance that will be provided under this scheme will be Rs 50000. Additional financial assistance can also be provided if required under this scheme

Aswasakiranam for senior citizens/differently abled-

Almost all physically or mentally disabled patients require caregivers who are their family members or relatives. Under this scheme, the government is going to provide monthly financial assistance of Rs 600 to the caregivers who are unable to take up employment for self-sustenance. The government launched this scheme on 2nd August 2010. All the citizens who are providing caregiving services to the patients from 2nd August 2010 will pay monthly financial assistance

Hunger free City for chronic illness-

This scheme has been launched in order to provide rice-based meals with vegetable curry during lunchtime to chronically ill patients free of cost at hospitals or specified locations. This lunch will be provided free of cost to the general public which includes bystanders. This scheme has launched in order to ensure that no citizen in the City goes without at least one square meal a day

Vayomithram for senior citizens-

Through this scheme, health care and support to elderly citizens above the age of 65 years who are residing at the corporation or Municipal areas of the state will be provided health care and support. Under this scheme, free medicines through mobile clinics, palliative care, counseling services, etc will be provided

Karunya deposit for differently abled-

This scheme has been launched in order to raise resources for the medical and educational support of the physically and mentally challenged citizens who are attending special schools or who are inmates of orphanages, institutions, etc. Under this scheme, depositors are attracted who are willing to deposit an amount of at least one lakh or its multiple as corporate social responsibility fund. This amount will be deposited into the state treasury for one year and is renewable on an annual basis. The interest and equivalent amount contributed by the government will be used for meeting the special requirements of the children

Prathyasha for women-

For all those families who are struggling to meet the marriage expenses of their daughters, the government has launched a prathyasha scheme. It is basically a joint venture with individuals, corporates, and Kerala’s social security mission. The poor families are not able to afford the expenses of their daughters. In order to help such families, this scheme has been launched. Under this scheme, the beneficiary will get marriage assistance of Rs 50000 each which will be raised by individuals, corporates, and Kerala social security mission. In order to get the benefit of this scheme the annual family income of the beneficiary should be less than Rs 60000

Snehasanthwanam for differently abled/chronic illness-

Under this scheme, monthly financial assistance of Rs 700 is provided to the caregivers of endosulfan victims who are fully bedridden or mentally retarded. Other than that Rs 2200 is given to bedridden endosulfan victims. Rs 1700 is provided to bedridden endosulfan victims who are getting Rs 300 as a disability pension. Based on the list furnished by the district collector Rs 1200 will be given to endosulfan victims. The financial assistance will be granted from December 2010 onwards. This scheme will also provide educational assistance to the children of endosulfan-affected families. For children studying in buds School, Rs 2000 financial assistance is provided. For students studying in class 1st to 7th Rs 2000, for children studying in class 8 to 10 Rs 3000 and for children studying in plus one in plus two Rs 4000 will be provided.

Samashwasam for chronic illness-

In order to provide care and protection to the weaker section of our community, this scheme has been launched. Under this scheme financial assistance is provided to the beneficiaries. Through this scheme kidney patients who belong to BPL families and are undergoing dialysis at least once a month will get financial assistance of Rs 1100 per month. In order to take the benefit of the scheme, the applicant must have a nationalized bank account.
