E Shram Portal Overview

The Ministry of Labour and Employment’s E Shram Portal aims to create a comprehensive database of unorganized workers across India using Aadhaar. This portal collects crucial information including name, occupation, residence, education, skills, and family details to evaluate employability and extend social security benefits. It marks the establishment of the country’s first national database specifically for unorganized workers such as migrant laborers and construction workers. Participants will receive an E Shram Card, facilitating better access to job opportunities and social services.

Upcoming Features of E Shram Portal

The government’s “Shram Card Yojana” aims to enhance the financial well-being of unorganized sector workers through various labor card benefits. As part of the initiative, workers who registered by early 2025 received their initial payment of ₹1000. Another disbursement of ₹1000 is expected to be announced soon.

E Shram Portal Progress

As of August 24, 2025, a total of 281.5 million workers have received their E Shram cards. Reports estimate that there are approximately 380 million unorganized workers in India. Following its launch, over 70% of unorganized laborers have registered. The portal was originally launched on August 26, 2017, to facilitate a nationwide database focused on unorganized employees working in sectors like construction, agriculture, and beyond, ensuring they receive essential social security and benefits. This includes workers who are migrants, gig workers, platform workers, street vendors, and domestic helpers.

The portal has been allocated around ₹704 crores for development over the next five years. Each registered worker receives an E Shram card featuring a unique 12-digit number. The E Shram site is also connected to the National Career Service (NCS) portal and is set to integrate with other platforms like ASEEM and Udyam, which assist micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Objectives of E Shram Portal

The main objective of the E Shram Portal is to establish a centralized database for all types of unorganized workers including those in construction, agriculture, domestic work, and other sectors. This initiative is intended to facilitate access to social security services for these workers and ensure their information is accessible to relevant stakeholders in order to implement support programs effectively.

Registration started on E Shram Portal on 26th August 2024. All unorganized workers can register using their Aadhaar Number, Bank Account Details, and Mobile Number linked to Aadhaar. Link #ShramevJayate Image — Ministry of Labour (@LabourMinistry) August 31, 2024
