How Schools Are Chosen for PM Shri Scheme
- Schools must be registered as elementary schools for classes 1 to 8 in any state.
- They should be managed by central/state/UT governments or local bodies with UDISE+ code.
- Schools compete in a challenge mode to get support to become PM Shri Schools.
- Selection happens in three stages with set timelines.
Stage 2 Shortlisting Criteria
- School should have a strong, well-maintained building.
- Must have a barrier-free access ramp.
- School safety should be guaranteed.
- Student enrollment at elementary and senior secondary levels must be higher than state averages.
- Separate toilets for boys and girls are required.
- Clean drinking water facility must be available.
- Separate hand-washing facilities should be present.
- All teachers must have photo ID cards as per rules.
- Electricity supply must be working.
- School should have library corners and sports equipment.
Stage 3 Shortlisting Process
- Schools shortlisted in stage 1 need to apply on PM Shri School Selection Portal within the time frame.
- Urban schools must score at least 70%, rural schools 60% to be selected.
