About PM eVidya- One Nation One Digital Platform

The Government of India has launched the PM eVIDYA program. Under this scheme, the top hundred universities in the country will start educating students through online education after 30th May 2020. There are many students throughout the country who do not have access to the internet. For all those students swayamPrabha DTH channel will be launched to provide education. The government will also launch 12 more similar channels under this scheme. Other than that a Diksha platform will also be launched which will involve e-content and QR code energized books for all the classes.

PM eVIDYA will also be called a one Nation digital platform. Other than that a TV channel called one class channel will also be launched for students who are studying in classes 1st to 12th. For visually and hearing impaired students the government will also do radio podcasts. All the essential steps will be taken by the government so that the education of students does not suffer due to the nationwide lockdown.

TV Channels Under PM eVidya Program Expanded

The PM eVidya program will be expanded by the government under one class one TV program from 12 to 200 TV channels in order to impart supplementary teaching and build a resilient mechanism for education. This has been announced by the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the union budget 2020-23 in the parliament. She also addressed the fact that due to the pandemic schools are closed and children particularly those who are living in rural areas and from scheduled caste and scheduled tribes and other weaker sections have lost two years of formal education. She has also highlighted the fact that the majority of students that are affected by the pandemic are from Government schools and government-recognized schools.

  • So in order to provide supplementary teaching and build resident mechanisms this scheme has been launched. Initially, there were only 12 DTH channels under the scheme which were dedicated to classes 1st to 12th.
  • Now the government is going to expand these channels from 12 to 200. Through these channels, high-quality content in all the spoken languages will be developed through the internet, mobile phones, TV, and radio.
  • Digital universities will also be established in order to provide access to education to students. Other than that the government is also going to start a creativity course. There will be 750 e-virtual labs in Science and maths and 75 e prayogshala.

Models Of PM eVIDYA Program

Digital infrastructure for knowledge sharing-

This platform has been formally launched by the vice president of India on 5th September 2017. Through this platform learning material that fits the need of the prescribed School curriculum is provided. This portal can be accessed in English and various other languages. This platform will also contain lesson plans, worksheets,s, and activities to create an enjoyable classroom experience

Swayam Portal-

This portal has been initiated by the government of India in order to achieve three cardinal principles of education that is access, equity, and quality. Through this portal best teaching-learning resources for all the students in available including the most disadvantaged. Any student at any time can access this portal free of cost. Till may 2024about 90000 students have already enrolled on this portal. This portal provides video lectures, specially prepared reading material, self-assessment tests, and an online discussion forum for clearing doubts

Swayam Prabha TV Channels

Swayam Prabha TV was inaugurated on 7th July 2017. It is a group of DTH channels that are devoted to telecasting quality educational programs. These programs will be telecasted 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. This channel operates using GSAT 15 satellite. Through the host new content is covered for at least 4 hours a day. This content will get repeated 5 times a day so that students can choose the time of their convenience

Extensive use of radio, community radio, and podcast-

The government is going to organize educational web radio streaming, and audio for educational purposes so that those students who are visually impaired or who do not have access to other sources of education can be able to get an education. These radio podcasts will be held through Mukta Vidya Vani and Shiksha Vani podcast

Specially e-content for Children with Special Needs-

Children with special needs will be provided with special e-content. The National Institute for open schooling will make its website accessible to people with disabilities. Keyboard support, ease of navigation, display setting, content readability and structure, alternate description for images, and audio-video description will be provided through the website to the students so that students do not have to face any obstacle in getting an education

Online Coaching for Competitive Exams-

For various types of competitive exams like IIT, the NEET Department of Higher Education has made arrangements for online learning. The department has prepared a series of lectures so that students can prepare for the competitive exams. 193 physics videos, 218 maths videos, 146 chemistry videos, and 120 biology videos have been uploaded on the portal. For test practice, Abhyas mobile app has been developed. This app will publish 1 test every day for preparation in both English and Hindi. For the preparation of IITPal, the lectures will be telecast on swayam Prabha channel. Channel number 22 will be allocated for this purpose
