Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan officially launched the Kerala Advocate Stipend Scheme on 11 February 2024. Even though this scheme was first introduced in 2018, it started supporting young lawyers from 2024. Every lawyer who qualifies under this scheme will get Rs 3000 each month. This amount comes from the Kerala Advocates Welfare Fund, which was created under the Kerala Advocates Welfare Fund Act, 1980.
Earlier, the government allowed a monthly stipend of up to Rs 5000 for certain junior lawyers from this Welfare Fund by an order dated 9 March 2018. But now, the fixed monthly amount is Rs 3000 for eligible young lawyers.
