Overview of Tripura Puno Baniya Scheme 2025
On July 15th, 2024, the tribal welfare department and the Council of Ministers approved the Tripura Puno Baniya Scheme. The name “Puno Baniya” means “goat business.” The scheme mainly aims to financially help the indigenous natives of Tripura.
The plan is to offer credit-linked support to members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The scheme money will be sent directly into the SHG members’ bank accounts, giving Rs 25,000 to each member.
Self-Help Groups are small groups of poor people who save money together and give small loans to their members. In this scheme, each beneficiary will receive Rs 25,100 in total.
The state government provides Rs 1.4 lakh. The rest, Rs 1,25,500, is given as a loan to SHG members. Like banks, the scheme gives loans to beneficiaries, which they can repay in easy monthly installments after they start earning from goat farming.
