As per the Tripura panchayat rules of 2011, shopkeepers may acquire trade licenses through existing market clusters. Until May 2025, approximately 19,683 licenses have been issued to retailers and wholesalers. Applications for these licenses must be submitted manually to the gram panchayat.
Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan
Shopkeepers can avail an emergency credit line under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, allowing them to borrow up to 20% of their outstanding credit with a 4-year repayment tenured and a 12-month moratorium on principal repayment.
Swavalamban Scheme
This scheme offers a 30% subsidy (35% for women) on loans up to ₹1 crore for trade activities, capped at ₹100,000 per beneficiary. All individuals aged 18 to 50 can apply, irrespective of income or education qualifications.
Business Loan Applications
- Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and Minorities: They can access loans for business development based on certain income criteria through various cooperative development corporations.
National Pension Scheme for Traders
This voluntary scheme provides monthly pensions of a minimum of ₹3,000 to traders and self-employed persons who meet the turnover criteria. Family pension benefits are available in case of the subscriber’s untimely demise.
Shop/Stock Insurance
The rural local bodies will facilitate insurance coverage for shopkeepers’ buildings and inventory against loss or damage due to burglary and other risks, ensuring full financial protection for their livelihoods.
