Nijut Moina Scheme First Installment Released
On October 6, 2024, the Assam Government started something really important called the Nijut Moina Scheme. This big event took place at the Veterinary College Ground in Khanapara, Guwahati, and a huge crowd of over 24,000 female students came from different places. The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, shared all about this awesome plan that is here to help girls’ education.
The Nijut Moina Scheme’s main goal is to give girls financial support. They want to help girls stay in school and not drop out. This is super important! The scheme gives monthly money, which is called a stipend, to students. For girl students in Classes 11 and 12, they get Rs. 1,000 every month. For those in college, it goes up to Rs. 1,250. And for those studying for their post-graduate degrees, they get Rs. 2,500!
What’s even better is that this money will go directly into their bank accounts. It will be sent on the 11th of each month, no matter if there are breaks in school or not. So, the Nijut Moina Scheme is a great way to help girls’ education in Assam!
The primary objective of this initiative is to reduce dropout rates by providing financial support to students. Furthermore, CM indicated plans to introduce a similar scheme for boys in the following year. However, certain groups, including married students and those enrolled in private institutions, will not be eligible for these stipends. The CM highlighted that the scheme is designed to empower girls, enhance their independence, and reduce child marriage in the state.
